What are the opening hours of your gallery?

Wednesday – Sunday: 10 – 18 h
Thursday: 10 – 19 h
Monday, Tuesday: closed
On Tuesday open for pre-arranged groups.

How many buildings are run by the Moravian Gallery in Brno?
The Moravian Gallery in Brno comprises five buildings in total. Four of these are in Brno – they include the Museum of Applied Arts, Husova 14; the Pražák Palace, Husova 18 and the Governor’s place, Moravské náměstí 1. Another building - the former house of Dušan S. Jurkovič in Brno-Žabovřesky is undergoing a reconstruction and should be re-opened in 2011. Since 2006, the Moravian Gallery is in charge, in collaboration with the MAK in Vienna, of Josef Hoffmann’s Birthplace near Jihlava. Is the access to the buildings barrier-free?
Yes. The access to the three buildings in Brno (the Governor’s Palace, the Pražák Palace and the Museum of Applied Arts) is barrier-free. Entry to the Pražák Palace for the disabled is provided from Besední St.

What is the entrance fee to exhibitions in the Moravian Gallery in Brno?
Depending on the type of the exhibition the entrance fee varies between 100 to 40 CZK. Students and seniors pay half the price. The fee for the Family Ticket is derived from the basic entrance fee, i.e. between 220 and 90 CZK and is valid for two adults and two children. A ticket to the Respirium and Camera exhibition spaces for medium-sized events costs 40/20 CZK. Group admission is 25 CZK / person, and the ticket can be bought from 12 people upwards.

Do you offer free entry to exhibitions?
Every first Friday in the month visitors have free entry to the permanent exhibitions (Old Masters, applied art and design, modern and contemporary art). On special occasions, such as public holidays, important anniversaries or the beginning and end of the school year, we frequently offer free entry to both permanent and current exhibitions. Information on current free entry events is always posted on our web page in the news and in the quarter-yearly programmes.

Are there any spaces in the MG which can be seen for free at any time?
You can visit free of charge the newly opened Podesta exhibition space in the Museum of Applied Arts. You can also sees for free installations and works in the Pražák Palace in the Space for a Single Work of Art and the Atrium. In the Governor’s Palace you can head to the Ambit for regular exhibitions  with free entry.

We would like to book a group visit with a guided tour of the exhibition. Is it possible?
No problem. Groups can book guided tours of temporary or permanent exhibitions in Czech or a foreign language by calling 532 169 146 or by email at da@moravska-galerie.cz. For pre-arranged group visits we are open on Tuesday as well. 

How do I quickly find on your web pages contacts to the Moravian Gallery in Brno?
Contacts to everyone on the MG staff list are located under the “Moravian Gallery in Brno” link on the left-hand side of the web page. In addition to contacts to the MG staff, you will be able to receive information on each of the five buildings, permanent exhibitions or the Bulletin MG and others.

We know some people who receive email invitations with the current events in the MG. How can we sign up for receiving the invitations?
You can sign up in two different ways. Either enter your email in the “News from the MG” box located on the home page of our web or fill, at any box-office, a leaflet entitled “Do you want to know what’s going on?”. You will then be regularly sent weekly information on new exhibitions, programmes and free entry to the MG.

Do you publish catalogues of the individual exhibitions? Where can they be purchased?
The MG issues a catalogue of all the main exhibitions with photographs and exhibition information. All publications are available from the bookshops of the Moravian Gallery in Brno situated in all of its exhibition houses. The catalogues are also distributed through the Kosmas company network.

Do you also prepare accompanying programme to exhibitions?
Our department for public education prepares a number of accompanying events to all major exhibitions. They include, for example, the popular art workshops for pre-school and school children, adults, seniors, the disabled and teachers. In addition to workshops people can also visit film shows, discussions with exhibition authors, architectural walks in Brno, guided exhibition tours, lecture cycles Masters of World Art or Masters of Art Nouveau and Modernism and many others. Do you organize events or exhibitions in the MG for the disabled?
The department for public education regularly prepares accompanying events entitled Between Ourselves. It is a series of art workshops for children and adults with a physical handicap and thanks to the barrier-free access to the gallery wheelchair users are also welcome.  More detailed information can be obtained by calling 532 169 119 or emailing da@moravska-galerie.cz. Entry to the workshops is free. The MG also holds the Collection of Works of Art for the Blind or Weak-sighted situated in the entrance section to the permanent exhibition of applied art on the second floor of the Museum of Applied Arts. The collection features include the possibility of haptical contact with the originals which enables visitors with a sight impairment to get acquainted with contemporary art by touch as well. At present the collection consists of thirty-seven works by nineteen artists, of which seven selected works are currently on show – for example by Jiří Kolář, Adriana Šimotová, Petr Nikl and others. Who can use the library of the Moravian Gallery in Brno?
The books and publications in the library can be borrowed by the MG staff, researchers and experts in the field, other libraries and those interested from the general public based on a valid membership card or after paying a single-off fee. The library of the Moravian Gallery, located in the Pražák Palace, has served the public since 1883. The reading room has basic dictionaries, general and art history encyclopaedias, as well as the current issues of all subscribed journals and the daily press. Free selection shelves include books from the reference library comprising the basic literature from all disciplines of free and applied art and architecture. The library repositories store a wealth of art history literature of local and foreign provenance, artist monographs, theoretical and overview works, exhibition catalogues, auction catalogues, bulletins of museums and galleries from throughout the world. The scope of specialized journals is especially wide, many of which have been in subscription for decades. Most of the books are intended for reference reading although home loans are also possible. The study room is equipped with computers for searching in the electronic catalogue and on-line databases. Registered readers can use the internet free of charge.

What does the abbreviation SPMG stand for?
It is an abbreviation of the Friends of the Moravian Gallery (Společnost přátel Moravské Galerie). If you decide to become a member, you can select from three types of membership the one that suits you the best. For the interested we have prepared a Silver Card card, Silver Card Plus, and Golden Card. You will gain free entry to all exhibitions in the MG and many other benefits.
