The exhibition will present for the first time in a comprehensive manner the collection of ancient jewellery of the Moravian Gallery in Brno. For the sake of providing a comprehensive overview of glyptic material from Moravia there will also be shown examples of gems from excavations found in the context of Roman archaeological sites and those additionally mounted on later jewellery from the Great Moravian period. The exhibition will be divided into several thematic sections covering the variety of ancient and modern stone engraving art. The last thematic group is comprised of the so-called “magic” gems which possessed a predominantly protective function for the bearer.
